Scottish Avalanche Information Service Appoints New Co-ordinator

Senior Forecaster, Graham Moss, takes on key role for essential service

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Graham Moss as its new Co-ordinator. Graham takes over from Mark Diggins, who after 16 years of valued leadership, is stepping down from this role.

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service, funded and operated by sportscotland provides free daily avalanche hazard forecasts throughout the winter season for six key mountain areas. It is relied on by climbers, skiers, and mountaineers across Scotland for essential avalanche and mountain condition reports, to help inform decision making.

The appointment of Graham recognises his wealth of experience. He has served as a Senior Forecaster with SAIS for the past 35 winters, predominantly in the Lochaber area and including Ben Neivs, Scotland’s highest and busiest mountain. He becomes the third person to hold this position, following in the footsteps of Mark Diggins and Blyth Wright.

“Graham’s deep knowledge of Scotland’s winter mountains and his decades of commitment to the service as a forecaster make him exceptionally well-placed to help lead SAIS into the future,” said Shaun Roberts, Principal of sportscotland National Outdoor Training Centre Glenmore Lodge and Scottish Avalanche Information Service. “We want to thank Mark for his immense contribution to the development of avalanche hazard forecasting and mountain safety and to congratulate Graham as he steps into this new role.”

Shaun adds “Mark has been instrumental in shaping SAIS’s reputation as a trusted source of avalanche forecasting and safety advice. His work within Scotland has had influence throughout a global network of avalanche services.  Whilst he is stepping down from his leadership role as Co-ordinator, Mark will continue to work for the Service.”
