The Scottish Association of Minority Ethnic Educators (SAMEE) Recognition and Appreciation Awards 2024 took place at the Glasgow Marriott on Thursday 29 August.
The annual awards are an outstanding celebration of the commitment, efforts, progress, achievements and triumphs of unsung heroes across minority ethnic communities in Scotland.
Sports for All Award
This year Passion4Fusion won the Sports for All Award, sponsored by sportscotland. The award recognises organisations encouraging the participation of ethnically diverse communities in sport by addressing inequalities, reducing barriers to participation and raising health awareness.
Passion4Fusion began as an informal community initiative by a group of multi-cultural volunteers motivated to create a support structure to meet the needs of diverse ethnic minority communities, particularly young people and women in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Today, the organisation run a variety of programmes, supporting 250 young people weekly through sport activities, anti-racism training, social action for mental health and wellbeing, and much more.
Outstanding Young Leader winner Ammara Abid was commended for her ethical leadership and inspiring ethnic minority communities to reconnect with nature through projects with The Duke of Edinburgh, Bonnie Boots and Boots & Beards, to foster a brighter and healthier future.
Raza Sadiq, founding member and chairperson of Active Life Club received the Special Recognition award which marked 25 years of transformational work, empowering young people and promoting diversity and inclusion. On the 31 August 2024, the club celebrated the 25th anniversary with an all-day sports, culture, partner and information event in Glasgow.
