Celebrating The Black Scottish Awards 2025

sportscotland sponsors Sportsperson of the Year at the third annual Black Scottish Awards

Winners of the 2025 Black Scottish Awards were announced at the awards evening on Saturday 27 September at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

For the third year in a row, hosts Asabea Owusu and Tosin Ogunlesi presented the evening of speeches, performances and awards in celebration of unity, identity, and excellence.

The awards were founded by Enoch Adeyemi in 2023 to honour and recognise the outstanding contributions made by individuals, businesses, and organisations, highlighting and amplifying the voices and successes of the Black community across various fields in Scotland.

Enoch has lived in Scotland for over two decades and has seen the attainment levels of the black population grow over that time, starting successful businesses and building successful careers across many sectors. Enoch was keen to recognise these achievements to inspire future generations and so The Black Scottish Awards were established.

Atta Yaqub, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at sportscotland joined the judging panel for 2025, alongside Kieran Achara MBE, ClIr Fatima Joji, Edward Obi, Fatima Ceesay Lopez, and Dr Susie Mitchell.

Sportsperson of the year

Bradley Francis was announced as the deserving winner of the Sportsperson of the Year award, sponsored by sportscotland.

Bradley has made significant progress in his athletic performances over the past year. He won the Scottish Senior 400m Hurdles title for the first time last summer, establishing himself as Scotland’s number one in the event.

During the indoor season, he claimed the 400m title at the Scottish University Championships and earned a silver medal over the same distance at the Indoor British Universities Championships (BUCS).

At the start of the outdoor season, he won the 400m Hurdles and 200m titles at the Scottish University Championships and finished 4th in a competitive 400m Hurdles final at Outdoor BUCS.

Bradley has consistently competed in the 400m and 400m Hurdles throughout the season, setting personal bests in both events. He currently ranks 4th on the al-time Scottish 400m Hurdles list and sits within the UK top ten for the year.

The Black Scottish Awards Legacy
