Sports clubs and physical activity organisations across Scotland are celebrating thanks to cash grants from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.
Projects from the Orkney Islands to East Ayrshire will receive National Lottery funding, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund in partnership with sportscotland. A total of £84,834 is being shared between 24 projects across the country.
From pitch rollers to floor beams
The money will contribute to a range of projects which will help support sport across Scotland, with Inverurie Cricket Club set to use funds to buy a new pitch roller benefiting all the clubs who use the ground. Stirling Lawn Tennis and Squash Club will use the funding to carry out improvement works to their clubhouse building.
Elsewhere East Kilbride Gymnastics Club used the funding to expend their provision into new gym space within their facility and meet increased demand for their services, while Dunfermline Water Polo Club will purchase new equipment.
Chair of East Kilbride Gymnastics Club, Les Shields, said “We have been very lucky to get the Awards For All grant and will definitely be putting this to good use. The grant has allowed us to set up a dedicated area for both general gymnasts in our recreational gymnastics section and for the younger gymnasts in the pre-school section.
“We have now bought bars, floor beams, wedges, that can all be used for these gymnasts. It has allowed us to set up a dedicated area and extend what we can offer to this age group. Many thanks to all involved in allowing us to get this grant.”
Secretary of Dunfermline Water Polo Club, Richie Metcalfe, said: “We are immensely grateful for the grant. The award has enabled the club to replace worn out equipment which is reaching the end of its useful life and already impacting upon delivery of our club activities.
“The new lightweight goals in particular will enable us to take forward our plans to work with other groups in the wider community on a more regular basis and aid promotion of the sport to new members."
"This new and modern water polo equipment will benefit players of all ages and genders, from our primary school aged youngsters to our adults, and will significantly improve their training and competition experience.”
Thanks to National Lottery players
The funding comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland – a quick and simple way to access small National Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000. The grants have been made possible thanks to National Lottery players, who raise £36 million each week for good causes across the UK.
