About Sport First

Mel Young, the new chair of sportscotland

Sport First has been reborn as a digital content hub.

The sporting system in Scotland has never been stronger – and now we have a state-of-the-art digital platform where we can tell the stories behind the structure. Sport First, previously sportscotland’s flagship print publication, is now an online content hub and Mel Young, the new chair of sportscotland, invites you to discover more...

It's story time

As vice-chair of sportscotland for the past three years I’ve been fortunate to witness the evolution of a world-class sporting system.

There are thousands of people working hard, and working together, to make it easier for everyone in this country to get involved in sport, to incorporate it into their daily lives and contribute to our mission of putting sport at the heart of every community.

Sport First is where we tell their stories. And now it has a new home. Welcome!

A purely digital resource

Digital communication has become a very powerful tool for people in all walks of life who have a story worth telling. Messages can be spread to a vast audience through website and social media channels.

At sportscotland we want everyone in Scotland to have access to a world-class sporting system and the same applies to the way we communicate that message.

We want as many people as possible to hear our stories. To know about what our staff, our stakeholders and our partners are doing to make sport a way of life across Scotland.

This is why Sport First has become a purely digital resource.

The great and the good

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games gave Scottish sport a unique opportunity to demonstrate its prowess to the world.

It was an invigorating experience for all involved, and we want to make sure that people continue to be inspired by the work that goes into maintaining a world-class sporting system every day of every week of every year.

We now have an exceptional range of facilities in Scotland, and we will demonstrate how those resources are being used to leave nothing to chance when our athletes travel the world to fly the flag in international sport.

With Sport First we will tell the stories of the great and the good.

We’ll interview the athletes who win the medals, and ask them how they did it.

We’ll go behind the scenes to tell you how the experts at the sportscotland institute of sport give those athletes the support they need to take on the world’s best.

We’ll also bring you the stories of the heroes who don’t make the papers.

We’ll introduce you to the people who form the bedrock of our system, the professionals and volunteers who make sure sport happens in each and every one of Scotland’s schools, clubs and community sport hubs.

Ultimately, Sport First is not about sportscotland. It gives us the opportunity to tell stories about you, for you. So we would love to hear what you think of our new website, in the comments section at the foot of each article.

We hope you will enjoy this journey as much as we will.
