"I first got into volunteering when I was in fifth year at school where I was asked if wanted to be part of the Sports Coach Academy, a leadership opportunity run by Active Schools. I was always a very sporty person growing up and I knew I wanted to have a career in sport, so without hesitation I said yes. Throughout this program I had some amazing opportunities to get involved with Active Schools and ever since then I have been involved in so much volunteering within my local community through local schools, clubs and organisations.
"I think volunteering has given me a lot of purpose and drive to get up every day and work towards my goals."
I have been involved in a lot of volunteering over the years and I’ve absolutely loved every minute of it. Being able to volunteer has given me so much experience in different areas of work within sport, and has allowed me to see which areas I really enjoy and the ones that I want to pursue as a career because of all the volunteering I have done.
I am now in a good position with all the experience I have, to be able to reach my goal of working full-time in sport. I would 100% recommend volunteering in sport if you’re able to because you will gain so much valuable experience from it."

"I got into volunteering through the teachers in my final year of secondary school. Our Active Schools works very closely with the PE department and they were really encouraging and helped me build enough confidence in myself to pursue teaching as a career.
Through university I ventured out volunteering with different charities and love helping others in this way. Volunteering was the foundation of my career in sport.
It is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done and I’m so grateful to Active Schools for giving me the opportunity to do it.
"I have built so much confidence in myself, improved my communication and gained invaluable experience working with a variety of people."
Volunteering has allowed me to give back to my community and make a positive impact inspiring others to get involved in sport."

"I got into volunteering from opportunities at school given to me by Active Schools and also from the sport I used to compete in, figure skating. Volunteering gave me the opportunity to gain new skills like improving my communication, teamwork, confidence and organisational skills.
"It allowed me to work with such a wide range of people, from primary school pupils to people living in a care home."
