Schools and early years settings across Scotland are being urged to take part in the first ever World Daily Mile Day.
The Daily Mile is a social physical activity, with children running, jogging, or wheeling at their own pace in the fresh air with friends.
Since it started in Stirling 11 years ago, with the goal of improving children’s health and wellbeing, The Daily Mile has grown remarkably and now children across 90 countries regularly take part.
There are now 17,000 schools and nurseries taking part and over four million children now running a mile a day and seeing the benefits of regular physical activity.
To recognise all the positive benefits daily physical activity has on physical and mental health, the first ever World Daily Mile Day will take on Thursday 27 April. The day will provide the opportunity to bring together the global Daily Mile community to recognise the wonderful work of our schools, teachers and children
Primary schools and early years settings across the world will register and take part by doing their Daily Mile on the same day. Every registered school or early years setting will receive a free, downloadable digital pack containing fun resources to help them celebrate on the day.

Elaine Wyllie MBE, Founder of The Daily Mile said: “When I started the Daily Mile at my school in Stirling, we could never have imagined that we’d reach a landmark four million children across the world.
"I have always believed The Daily Mile has the potential to have a positive and sustained impact on our children’s health and wellbeing.
"There really has never been a more important time to work collectively to improve health and wellbeing for all children and we are committed to building on the positive progress over that last 10 years.”
