Young people and organisations across Scotland honoured at awards night

On Friday 24th February the Scottish Sports Futures sportscotland Awards 2023 celebrated a variety of winners at the annual awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow.

The awards night is seen as one of the highlights of the year by the young people, partners and funders across the organisation and is an inspirational reminder of what can be achieved through partnership working and putting young people at the heart of everything.

Throughout the evening, eight awards were presented to young people and organisations from across Scotland who have helped young people change lives through sport. 

Spirit of the Year - Dean Rhappozzoh 

Dean is an incredible young person who has constantly shown his perseverance. His remarkable positive presence and calming aura helps create an uplifting atmosphere for everyone in the group.

 

 

Coach/Youth Worker of the Year - Ewan McTurk

Ewan has played a vital role in educating young people while providing a judgement free, safe place, for young people to express themselves. He never shies from discussing the difficult topics and having open and honest conversations.

 

 

Unsung Hero of the Year - Ellie-Rose McKinlay

Ellie-Rose’s selfless acts are always on display for all to see, along with her smile that could brighten up a room. She is always looking out for others and while still being young, there is no doubt that she is already a great role model.

 

 

Positive Destination Award - Zac O'Neil 

Zac constantly works tirelessly to improve and has never failed to take on every opportunity granted to him. With work ethic such as his there is no doubt that there’s a bright future ahead.

 

 

Inspiring Journey of the Year - Jake Larcombe 

Jake’s journey has inspired other young people to overcome adversity and never fear a challenge. He is able to motivate and inspire all those around him.

 

 

Iain Reid Outstanding Achievement Award - Aiden Brewer

Aidan has continued to work hard and overcome countless challenges within his life to get to the positive place he is today. He is an incredible role model to all young people due to his resilience, determination and positive attitude.

 

 

Social Impact Award - PEEK 

PEEK is an amazing organization that works to create a world where children, young people, and families are free from a life of poverty and inequality. They are committed to provide support in whatever way to improve the family’s life chances and drive lasting social impact in the communities they serve.

 

Changing Lives Partner of the Year - Gallatown Bike Hub

Gallatown Bike Hub is an exceptional social enterprise proving opportunities to deprived communities with the use of bikes. For the last 10 years they have expanded into several workshops all while giving away around 4000 bikes.

 

Chief Executive of sportscotland, Forbes Dunlop, said, “A huge congratulations to all the winners this evening, they truly deserve to be recognised for all of the hard work and energy that they put into everything they are doing."

“Through our partnerships with organisations like Scottish Sports Futures, we continue to see how important young people are in creating welcoming and inclusive sporting opportunities and how vital the ongoing work is to young people across Scotland.”

Chief Executive of Scottish Sports Futures, Kirsty McNabb, said, “I am so proud of each young person we are privileged to work alongside at Scottish Sports Futures.'' ''Our annual awards allow for much deserved recognition of the incredible journeys they have been on, and how, through the power of sport and positive relationships they are flourishing."
