Scottish Women in Sport Awards 2024

Scottish Women in Sport held their annual Awards on Friday 1 November at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Glasgow.

Wrapping up an exciting summer of sport, Scottish Women in Sport (SW/S) celebrated their 11th annual awards night to recognise the success of the incredible women making a difference to sport in Scotland.

Among award winners were athletes, para-athletes, volunteers, clubs in the community, pioneers and those working in roles from recreational to elite.

Young Sportswoman of the Year

Erin Boothman was named as the recipient of the Young Sportswoman of the Year, an award sponsored by sportscotland. Erin's fantastic season began with two gold medals at the British Youth and Junior Track Championships, before going on to win two world titles at the UCI Junior Track World Championships.

Scottish Cycling continued their celebrations later on in the evening as Neah Evans was announced as the Sportswoman of the Year. Neah’s outstanding season has included two Silvers at the European Track Cycling Champs, Gold at the Track Nations Cup and a fantastic Silver medal at the Paris Olympics in the Madison.

Showcasing strength and depth

It was a night to remember for Scottish Athletics, with local hero, coach and official Chloe Emordy winning the Volunteer of the Year award alongside international superstar Samantha Kinghorn, who collected the award for Para Athlete of the Year.

Chloe was commended for her outstanding commitment to her athletics club, Springburn Harriers, and to Scottish Athletics – Chloe is a previous member of their Young People's Forum & has stayed on as mentor.

Sammi was celebrated for her incredible season which culminated in five Paralympic medals at Paris 2024, including Gold in the T53 100m. Sammi also participated in a special guest Q&A as part of the evening with presenter Heather Dewar.

The power of teamwork

Scotland Women’s Cricket team were named as the Team of the Year. The well-deserved recognition comes after a sensational 2024, which saw the Scots qualify and then compete at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup for the first time. Scotland have also achieved a top-12 ODI ranking this year, establishing themselves as a growing force in world cricket.

The Community Champion award was presented to North Apex Gymnastics Club. Based in Wick, in the North of Scotland, the club currently has over 190 gymnasts and a team of over 20 coaches and young leaders who provide a friendly and safe environment to those living rurally with areas of social deprivation. The clubs summer camps have allowed over 700 children to try gymnastics.

Fife boccia coach Claire Morrison was honoured to receive the Coach of the Year award. Claire's athletes include Paralympic gold medallist Stephen McGuire and Kayleigh Haggo, who competed at her first Paralympics at Paris 2024 despite first playing boccia just two years ago.

Claire said: "I am absolutely blown away. It’s such an honour to receive this recognition personally and for boccia and for para sport. I am so proud to be a female coach amongst so many other wonderful women in sport."

Supporting health within sport

Scottish Hockey were awarded with the most valuable partnership for their work with Nixi, Unicorn Cup, Pebe and Fab Little Bag. The Scottish governing body set up a Female Athlete Health Working Group, forming partnerships with these innovative brands to address key concerns from periods to breast health.

The partnership with Unicorn Cup was formed as part of Scottish Hockey’s drive to support female health within hockey through education, and products that help remove barriers to female participation in sports.

Unicorn Cup is a period cup that offers leak proof protection for up to 12 hours and Unicorn Cup will be offered amongst team members across the Scotland pathway, alongside education sessions to help broaden knowledge, and knock down barriers, across the sport.
