If you're passionate about sport, we want to hear from you

Do you believe in the power of sport to change lives? Then why not take a step to changing your own life and join the board of sportscotland.

The national agency for sport is looking for three people with a passion for sport who see the value in creating a culture where sport is for life and who believe in an active Scotland where everyone benefits from physical activity.

The benefits of sport are immense. It keeps people active, supports health and wellbeing and helps develop knowledge and skills. It also helps strengthen our communities and contributes to Scotland’s economy.

As a member of the sportscotland Board you can help everyone in Scotland enjoy these benefits.

Be part of the world class sporting system and have your voice heard in building sport for the future. Be part of a system which makes the best use of all Scotland’s sports facilities as well as its great outdoors and helps people to take part at whatever level they choose.

Board member Coral Bain said: “This is a Board and an organisation which listens, which values you and has a real sense of what personal values you bring. If you are passionate about sport then it’s the right place to be.”

What we need

  • Enthusiastic people with an interest in sport
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Team players who can make informed decisions

What you will get

  • Immense satisfaction in supporting the world class sporting system
  • An understanding of all aspects of sport from grassroots to podium
  • A chance to shape the future of sport in Scotland

As a Board member, you will support the Chair in ensuring sport and physical activity contributes to Scottish Ministers’ ambitions for Scotland and, in particular, those set out in the Active Scotland Outcomes Framework, which are underpinned by equality for all.

Building on success

Mel Young, who leads the Board as sportscotland chair, said: "Our ambition is to see an active Scotland where everyone benefits from sport. We already have talented people working in sport, an exceptional natural environment and a great range of sport facilities.

"We continue to invest Scottish Government and National Lottery funding to help Scottish people get the most out of these amazing assets and take part in sport at the level they choose.

Mel Young

"The appointment of new members to the sportscotland Board comes at an important time in the development of sport in Scotland.

"Our commitment to get the most out of the sporting system for people in Scotland builds on the successes we have already achieved, and ensures we also contribute to the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government and its Active Scotland outcomes."
