Young people's sport panel call on all girls to feel empowered

With the spotlight on female participation in October, the Young people's sport panel have been trying to encourage women and girls across the country to get active and show the world the power of an #unstoppablegirl, as part of Active Girls!

With the inaugural Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week from 1-8 October and Active Girls Day on Friday 6 October, this is the perfect platform to share their passion for sport and to help their peers become #ActiveGirls!

Focus on females

The Young people's sport panel are dedicated to raising the profile of sport, and the members work in project groups that they feel strongly about. The women and girls group are focused on engaging this audience in sport and dispelling the myths that can surround female sport and participation.

They will be sharing a series of videos in October aimed at getting the conversation flowing about women and girls in sport, discussing why they love sport, who their role models are and what they think makes an #unstoppablegirl. They will be calling on everyone watching to share their own answers to the questions or simply tag a friend who might feel inspired by the content, using #unstoppablegirls and #ActiveGirls.

Hannah said: "We want women and girls to feel empowered to share their views and experiences.

"Seeing other women and girls celebrating and being celebrated will hopefully start a chain reaction of confidence being built."

Tiffy added: "Sport makes us feel unstoppable and we want everyone to feel the same. We hope our videos will encourage other girls to recognise the power of sport and feel supported to give sport a go."

So is this just a campaign for girls and women only? Emma highlighted: "We want to celebrate women and girls across Scotland but we also want to see the boys getting involved too! Let us know about an #unstoppablegirl in your life."

So join in the conversation and let's get women and girls more active!

Active Girls

The Active Girls programme aims to increase opportunities for girls and young women to participate in sport and physical activity while improving access to leadership opportunities. The programme, and the celebration day of Active Girls Day on 6th October are crucial in building ever greater recognition of the power of girls to motivate and inspire their peers and enhance knowledge and understanding of the workforce delivering PE, sport and physical activity to girls and young women. sportscotland continues to explore and develop the offering to the workforce.
