High in the hills above Largs, North Ayrshire, a gleaming jewel of a sports facility is nearing completion.
When it opens in spring after a £12million refurbishment, the sportscotland national sports training centre Inverclyde will be the only residential facility of its kind in the UK, designed for inclusivity.
Today, the centre was visited by Aileen Campbell MSP, the Minister for Sport and Public Health, and Kenneth Gibson, MSP for Cunninghame North - and to say that they were impressed by this state-of-the-art facility was an understatement.
“Today we got a glimpse of a new national facility which is truly inclusive," said Ms Campbell.
"The sportscotland national sports training centre Inverclyde will be an exceptional facility for sportspeople from all across the country, as well as having strong community links here in Largs.
"I am really impressed by the attention to detail in the accommodation and wider facilities that are going to complement the sports provision in the centre.
“It’s wonderful to see it taking shape and to hear the ideas of how sportscotland are going to maximise the use of the centre for all.
"Facilities like Inverclyde and the recently opened Oriam are not just for elite athletes, they have been designed to ensure that communities can benefit too.
"Scottish Government is very pleased and proud to have invested in Inverclyde, which is another example of the wide range of facilities we now have the length and breadth of the country.”
