Scotland’s sports stars and aspiring athletes have a new facility to call home as the Regional Performance Centre Dundee is up and running.
The £32 million-pound multi-sport facility in Caird Park boasts a full size indoor artificial pitch and an outdoor 3G pitch designed to meet FIFA and World Rugby standards for match play and training. In the main building there is an eight-court multi-sports hall, a state-of-the-art sport science suite, gym and meeting spaces.
Athletics is also well catered for with a new indoor athletics centre housing an 80m running straight providing all-weather training for athletes, while the existing athletics track has been resurfaced, the throws cage upgraded to IAAF standards and a covered spectator area added.
The outdoor velodrome has also been upgraded and can now be used for competitions – even at night, thanks to upgraded floodlighting.
Partnership
Investment came from Dundee City Council and the National Lottery through sportscotland, and the centre will be operated by Leisure and Culture Dundee.
The RPC Dundee will be open to everyone from local schools and clubs to some of the biggest names in Scottish sport.
It is also home to sportscotland’s Tayside and Fife sporting partnership and a specialist team of sportscotland institute of sport staff providing bespoke services to athletes training for some of the world’s top sporting events including the Olympics.
