St Rose of Lima were a class apart at the 2016 Sunday Mail sportscotland Scottish Sport Awards and now nominations are open for the 2017 School Sport Award.

Nominate now for the 2017 School Sport Award
The sportscotland Gold-rated school has over 480 pupils from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. English is not the first language for many of the children who attend St Rose of Lima and a high percentage of pupils have additional support needs.
The school boasts around 30 sport clubs, which run on a weekly basis, and have 13 strong club links in the community.
Unique initiatives including their Sport Captain project, where older pupils lead the school in all things sport, helped to set St Rose of Lima apart from the competition. As well as running clubs and organising events within the school, the Sport Captains also head up the PE Leaders programme, where P6 and P7 pupils help youngsters from P1 to P4 become more active by assisting with PE lessons.
Sport captain Jessica Johnston said: “It’s really fun because you get to help all of the little ones if they are struggling with something and you can help them get better at the sport.”
Stewart Harris, chief executive of sportscotland, said: “St Rose of Lima is a school that truly puts sport at the heart of its community and gives all pupils an opportunity to participate and progress in sport.
“With its Sport Captain, PE Leaders and Sport Club Loyalty Card programmes the school has set a benchmark for others to follow and we applaud the staff on their initiative.
