Scottish Cycling develops support for new cyclists

Scottish Cycling is helping to keep new cyclists on the road after producing a range of activity books designed to help and support people to continue to reap the benefits of cycling.

There was a growth in the popularity of cycling during the COVID-19 pandemic, with lockdown restrictions easing in most parts of the country, Scottish Cycling have developed these resources to help ensure new cyclists stay involved in the sport.

Three separate activity books have been created for kids, families and adults. They contain a range of cycling skills, general cycling knowledge, bike maintenance and fun challenges to help readers continue to enjoy riding their bikes.

Helping young cyclists

The resources have been developed with help from Digby Brown LLP. As part of the scheme, Scottish Cycling worked with local authorities to ensure each of the 32 local authorities in Scotland will receive 500 copies of the activity books to hand out in schools.

The activity books are also available to the general public to download for free or by paying a nominal fee to receive a physical copy to your home.

Scottish Cycling Club Development Manager Fraser Johnston said:

“We were delighted to be able to offer all 32 local authorities the opportunity to order 500 physical copies of our new Activity Booklets.

"Their connections locally will ensure that whether it’s our kids, families or adults’ booklet, they will reach the intended audiences and help to support more people to keep cycling as we emerge from lockdown.”

Chief Executive of sportscotland, Stewart Harris, said: “Clearly this has been an extremely difficult time for people across Scotland. While the virus has not gone away and we all must continue to adhere to the latest government guidance it is heartening to see restrictions ease for most of the country.

“Staying active is always one of the best things we can do for our physical and mental health so it is heartening to see an increase in the popularity of cycling and Scottish Cycling helping new cyclists by creating a range of activity booklets.”
