Encouraging women and girls to participate in sport

October marks an exciting time for female participation in sport in Scotland. With so much inspirational content being shared to encourage girls and women into sport, we take a look at what's happening across social media and beyond.

Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week

Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week is taking place from 1-8 October, 2017, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of increasing participation in sport and physical activity among women and girls in Scotland, and to reduce the barriers to participation.

You'll see lots of great examples of the benefits of sport and the impact it has had on females across the country.

Get involved in the conversation using the hashtag #myjourney and share your experiences and views.

#SportHour

Aileen Campbell, Minister for Public Health and Sport, will be co-hosting sportscotland’s monthly Twitter discussion taking place on Monday, 2 October at 9pm, themed Girls’ Participation.

Alongside her as co-host will be Hannah from our Young people’s sport panel. Find out more about Hannah in this article. Join in this positive online chat with colleagues from across the sporting sector by following @sportscotland and find out more here.

Active Girls Day

Friday, 6 October marks Active Girls Day, a annual celebration of the amazing work going into girls' sport and the incredible role models making it happen.

Lots of activities will be happening across Scotland in schools, clubs and community sport hubs and you can get involved by planning an activity or event.

Check out the range of online resources you can use to get involved; templates are available here. Don't forget to join in on social media using #ActiveGirls and share what you're doing!

#unstoppablegirl

Members of the Young people’s sport panel who sit on the working group focusing on women and girls have been creating videos to engage women and girls in sport - and what better time to share their work than this month!

They want to inspire their peers to become #ActiveGirls and to love sport as much as they do. Join them on social media as they talk about what makes an #unstoppablegirl and send in your pictures and clips using the hashtag. Find out more about this here
