A new start

Forbes Dunlop appointed as sportscotland chief operating officer

sportscotland has announced that it has appointed Forbes Dunlop as its new chief operating officer.

Forbes takes up the role following six years as chief executive at Scottish Swimming.

Chief executive of sportscotland, Stewart Harris, said the role would be crucial in shaping the future of the organisation.

He said: “I am delighted to have someone of Forbes’ calibre joining the senior team here at sportscotland. Forbes has done an excellent job at Scottish Swimming and brings with him a wealth of experience of the sporting system which will be invaluable as part of this new role.”

Chair of sportscotland, Mel Young, also welcomed the appointment.

He said: “The board is very familiar with Forbes and the fantastic work he has done during his six years at Scottish Swimming.

"This is an exciting time for sport in Scotland and we very much look forward to working with Forbes in this new role”

Graeme Marchbank, the Chair of Scottish Swimming, said “On behalf of the Board of Scottish Swimming I would like to thank Forbes for the contribution he has made to the development of swimming in Scotland. Forbes has been at the helm of Scottish Swimming for the last six years.

"A period which has seen year on year membership growth delivered through member swimming clubs, Scottish athletes competing to the highest level of the sport in swimming, para swimming and diving and the rollout and adoption of the National Learn to Swim Framework across Scotland which now supports over 75,000 young people learning to swim.

"This is an amazing opportunity for Forbes and we are excited about the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on the wider Scottish sporting community.”

Privilege

Forbes, who will take up his new post in April, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working for Scottish Swimming, it has been a real privilege to work with such a talented and dedicated group of staff and volunteers, their hard work alongside that of our local and national partners is why swimming continues to make progress and enjoy success at all levels of our sport.

I would like to thank the staff, our members and partners for all their support and I wish them the very best in continuing to develop swimming in Scotland.

“The role with sportscotland is a really exciting one and an opportunity for me that was just too good to pass. I am very much looking forward to working with Stewart and the team and playing my part in developing a world class sporting system in Scotland.”
